Storm Recovery Through Tree Selection and Proper Planting
Tree-care experts will be available at a two-part workshop that will address tree damage from the recent ice storms. (workshop flyer)
The first session will be held from 2-4 p.m. and is designed to provide tree board members, public works officials and green industry professionals with information about both short- and long-term disaster recovery efforts. The focus will be on species selection, pruning damaged trees and pruning to prevent future damage. A hands-on pruning demonstration, with a discussion of safety and proper equipment, will also be included.
The second session, held from 6-7:30 p.m., will help homeowners and other interested individuals make informed decisions about where to begin their storm clean-up efforts and how to care for their damaged trees. Topics of discussion will include potential hazards resulting from damaged trees, how to hire an arborist, what homeowners can safely do to care for damaged trees and steps homeowners can take to safeguard their trees from future damage.
There is no charge to attend the workshops, but interested individuals are asked to pre-register and indicate whether they will attend the afternoon or evening workshop.
The workshop is sponsored by the Nebraska Forest Service, Nebraska Statewide Arboretum, University of Nebraska–Lincoln Extension and Nebraska Arborists Association.
